§ 18-19. Soliciting orders, peddling or hawking from door to door.

  • It shall be unlawful for any solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, itinerant merchants or transient vendors of merchandise to go in and upon private residences, business establishments or offices for the purpose of soliciting orders for the sale of goods, wares and merchandise or for peddling or hawking the same without having been requested or invited to do so by the owners or occupants of such private residences, business establishments or offices. The provisions of this section shall not apply to persons employed by or representing any established merchant, business, firm or corporation located and regularly doing business in the city; to farmers selling any food item raised or produced by themselves; to permanently established residences; or to any person who is duly licensed to do so.
